Southeast Women's Herbal Conference

The Women of Red Moon Herbs

Drawn to the wild plants from an early age, Corinna Wood turned away from the usual focus in today's herbal world, of the rare, exotic, or endangered plants to study the powerful benefits available from the wild plants that are abundant and local, many of which are considered “weeds.”

In 1993, after receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in health and agriculture, with a focus on botany, biology, and nutrition, Corinna apprenticed with world-renowned herbalist Susun Weed. Beginning with Susun’s standard six-week apprenticeship, Corinna ended up living and working at Susun’s side for nine months.

Thanks to her apprenticeship with Susun Weed, Corinna found not only her passion, but also a deep understanding of the web that includes the sciences as well as life experience creating a foundation of a truly wholistic approach to living.  Numerous health issues she had struggled with--including cervical dysplasia, ammerorhea, and Lyme’s Disease--began to heal through herbal medicine and deeply nourishing life practices.

After her apprenticeship, Corinna and her dear friend Jessica Godino found themselves supplying friends and family with their herbs. In response to the overwhelming success people had with their herbs, they started Red Moon Herbs in 1994. Since that time, Red Moon Herbs has grown into a full-fledged business including mail order and wholesale accounts nationwide, with a concentration in the Southeast. In 2001, Jessica left Red Moon Herbs to become a licensed acupuncturist, where she brings the perspective and wisdom of eastern herbalism to deepen our understanding of western herbs.

From 2001 to 2007, Red Moon Herbs increased in size nearly fourfold, and became renowned throughout the region and beyond for the high level of quality and integrity of their medicines. In 2005, Corinna started the Southeast Women's Herbal Conference, a very popular annual conference in the Fall. Corinna also continues to teach herbal medicine and women's health, including the Wise Woman Fundamentals of Herbalism Week-long Immersions.

Sixteen years since founding, most aspects of the business have seen change, including growth, Jessica leaving, building a new apothecary, compliance with FDA regulations.  Yet the focus and mission of the business remains strong and true: to create herbal products from local, abundant plants. Today, the Red Moon Herbs family consists of four women, striving for excellence in our work and in our lives, proud to share these medicines with you and your loved ones. The women of Red Moon Herbs—who live at or near Earthaven Ecovillage-- are proud to support and be supported by a company whose green business practices mirror many of our own personal values and choices.

What makes Red Moon Herbs such high quality?
